Amen Dunes

Amen Dunes has received plenty of love around the RSTB halls, even showing up on this year's compilation with a stunning entry that showed his softer and harder sides. So it should come as no surprise that we're a bit excited about Damon's new EP coming out on Sacred Bones. This, along with an EP from The Bitters, marks the next installment in the label's spectacular, color coded 12" series. Again McMahon weaves heartfelt outsider folk with an attack of noise, though a few inclusions here may well be the closest that he's ever flown to the pop canon. Shades of 60's psych folk eke through the wooded chambers of McMahon's heart unfurling a sunlit beacon against bitter winds that stir up ravaged debris just a few paces further into this outstanding EP. As with his album it’s clear that McMahon stands delicately on the precipice of his noise and pop impulses, and rather than watering them down into single song entities, he's become adept at balancing a release between the two worlds. Though admittedly, this time he seems to be letting the light in more than usual, with perfectly sweet results.
