Peaking Lights

More shimmering psych nuggets from Madison's Peaking Lights. Following up their previous cassettes on Night People with a full length LP/Cassette on Night People and Not Not Fun respectively, the duo are fully immersed in the kind of gauzy synth throbs and analog brain squelch that the world needs more of. The duo have hunkered down in a bunker of tape hiss, dub hits and rudimentary beats while Indra Dunis keeps the séance crooning in full check. An element of pop lies dormant somewhere under their 17th generation tape duplication aesthetic but it too is often sacrificed to the ether. The LP is wrapped in classic SD Reed artwork as with all Night People releases but this time on the grand scale, which makes me glad that he's doing LPs now. The NNF cassette editions are presented in full J-card artwork by Amanda of Pocahuanted. Another great addition to the '09 noise army.
